Each summer, Camp OTX hires up to 200 college-aged young adults as cabin counselors, a crucial role involving the mentorship and care of campers around the clock. Cabin counselors have the opportunity to support the camp’s mission while serving as positive Christian role models for our campers. As a Camp OTX Counselor, you are at the heart of everything we do, creating a memorable and impactful experience for campers through selfless service, guidance, and encouragement .
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Directly overseeing 12 to 15 campers in a cabin ages 6 to 17
- Teaching classes in one or more areas of Camp OTX’s morning program
- Coaching a team of campers each morning during Team Competition
- Supervising an area of camp during Stampede (campers’ free time)
- Spending time with campers when not on duty during Stampede
- Supervising and participating in Special Events (theme nights)
- Leading nightly cabin devotionals
As part of their role, counselors are certified in one of three areas—lifeguarding, high ropes course, or shooting sports—and work day-to-day in each area, further developing their skills. This position offers valuable experience in leadership, communication, and teamwork, all under the guidance of full-time and senior Summer Staff.
