OVERVIEW

EACH SUMMER, CAMP OTX HIRES UP TO 8 COLLEGE-AGED YOUNG PEOPLE TO SERVE AS WRANGLERS. CAMP OTX WRANGLERS HAVE THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THEIR HORSEMANSHIP SKILLS AND WORK ETHIC TO SERVE THE OVERALL MISSION OF CAMP OTX.

The overall responsibility of a Wrangler is to help facilitate the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Camp OTX Barn. The Camp OTX Barn is home to approximately 14 horses, which are used for both Horsemanship classes and Trail Rides. Wrangler duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Care and feeding of Camp OTX’s horses
  • Care and maintenance of Barn tack, equipment and supplies
  • Teaching of various Horsemanship classes
  • Supervising Trail Rides through the beautiful Texas Hill Country
  • Teaching and supervising campers as they ride horses during Stampede and Special Events

All Wranglers can expect to learn valuable lessons in Horsemanship instruction, Equine care, teamwork, and Barn operations. All Wranglers work under the direction of full-time Camp OTX staff, and play a crucial role in the experience, ministry, and outreach of Camp OTX. All necessary training will be provided, although previous experience working with horses is preferred.

Finally, all Wranglers get to work in an exciting, kid-oriented Christian environment alongside other talented and passionate college students. The hours are long and the work is challenging, but the job is very rewarding!

Camp OTX can work with applicants and their schools to satisfy internships or other course study credit requirements.
